QUESTION:

Any tips on cooking bacon? I cooked bacon twice this weekend. Once for baked beans for a baseball potluck, and once for a Father's day salad. I'm just not very good at it and I'm wondering if you cooking experts have any suggestions.
(Bacon pictured was not cooked by me)

My main complaints are:

1) How do you get the strip to cook evenly and not curl up?

2) How do you empty the grease when you need to do more than one batch? (mine seem to get black on them from previous batches)

3) How do you avoid getting grease burns from the popping bacon?

4) How do you get crisp bacon that isn't burned?

I think one of my problems is trying to do too many things while my bacon is cooking .(I burned a few strips this morning.) But I just don't think it should be so hard to cook bacon!!!

Kammy,

My easiest solution is to just buy the precooked bacon at Costco. I just hate the mess that bacon creates. But I have also cooked it on parchment paper in the oven and that seems to work really, really well. That helps keep the bacon more flat and avoids the popping grease burns. : ) I hope those ideas help.

I think I learned to cook bacon in the oven by watching my sister-in-law, Debbie.

i have to agree with kim. the costco precooked bacon is THE BEST!! a few minutes in the microwave and you're good to go. i love that it doesn't make your house stink for days, too.

I love our bacon cooker. You skewer the ends which then hangs on the cooker. The bacon doesn't cook in the grease and they don't curl up. I like crispy bacon and it turns out nice and crispy

Thanks for the tips! I'll have to look into Costco's pre-cooked and the bacon cooker sounds amazing!!

I also have tried cooking bacon in the oven, and it splattered bacon grease all over my oven. Any tips on doing it in the oven without the mess? I actually love the costco bacon too! That bacon cooker sounds fantastic, I've never heard of one!

I do it in the oven every time (somthing Marylynn taught me). Standard/covection you should be able to cook it at 375 and not have any splatter problems. I line my cookie sheet with foil and it takes anywhere from 10-15 minutes. If I am paying attention I will drain the grease about halfway through, but you don't have too.

I use a microwave bacon pan. I am limited to 4 pieces of bacan at a time.

Hey, I linked to this bog through a friends, but I do have a good bacon cooking tip. The answer is the Pampered Chef Bar Pan. You can fit a pound of bacon on the large one. Cook it in the oven at 425 for 10-15 minutes. You don't have to flip it or anything. Plus it seasons the stone beautifully! Perfect bacon!
